Terry was born in Perth Amboy to William and Rose Arway. After graduating from Highland Park High School, she went on to earn her Registered Nursing degree at Flower Fifth Avenue Nursing College in Manhattan. After graduation, Terry worked at the Child Diagnostic Center in Woodbridge, NJ. While working there she met her future husband, Ariel Landy, whom she married in 1953. She spent many years dedicated to the schooling and extra-curricular activities of her four children. She also spent many summers as the nurse, and later the director, of Camp Laurel, a summer day camp for special needs children. In the early 1970s Terry returned to her primary vocation as a nurse in Rutgers University’s Student Health Services, where she worked full time until her retirement in 1998.
Terry was a passionate fan of Rutgers Women's Basketball, and a "Lady Knights" season ticket holder for many years. She was also a long-time patron of the New York City Ballet and the State Theater of New Jersey. She was an accomplished seamstress, and her counted cross stitch pieces and quilted works are proudly displayed in her family's homes. Terry also found time to volunteer for the American Cancer Society as a "Helping Smokers Quit" facilitator.
Terry was predeceased by her husband, Ariel Landy, and her sisters Dorothy Moore and Patricia Ries. She is survived by her aunt, Theresa Polanin; her sister, Regina Swords and her husband Richard; her son David Landy and his wife Patricia, and their sons Patrick and David; her daughter Martha Landy and her partner Jean Charles Roy; her son Michael Landy and his wife Jane, and their son James, and their daughter Sarah Kraemer. Sarah and her husband Dave are parents of Terry’s great grandson Leon; her son Peter Landy and his wife Nancy, and Nancy’s daughter Dana Schaffer. Dana and her husband Chad are parents of Terry’s great grand stepchildren, Ethan and Briella; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
