Oleh Zwadiuk, born February 17, 1934 in Sokal, Western Ukraine, to Antonina Zwadiuk (nee Berezhnytska) and Volodomyr Zwadiuk, died July 25, 2025, at the age of 91. Oleh was most recently a resident of Warren, NJ, where he lived with his much-cherished wife, Vera, and sister-in-law, Luba. Oleh died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family.
Oleh, accompanied by his mother, immigrated from Ukraine to the United States (New York,NY) in 1949. While ever loyal to his homeland, Oleh quickly became a US citizen and enlisted in the Armed Forces, proudly serving his newly adopted country as a United States Marine Corps Sergeant.
Oleh began his career in journalism working as a sportswriter for "The Ukrainian Weekly", eventually becoming a well-respected foreign correspondent and ultimately Washington DC News Bureau Chief for RFE/RL (Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty), a career that spanned well over 40 years.
Oleh married his life-long love, Vera, in June 1964, a bond that would prove loving, supportive, strong, and filled with much humor, for over 61 years. Oleh's greatest joy was being surrounded by his 2 daughters, Nadia Pylypec (Leo) and Ivanna Craig (Kevin), son Yuri Zwadiuk (Olya), as well as 5 grandchildren, Roman and Christian Pylypec, Misha Craig, and Anna and Zlata Zwadiuk, and his much-adored sister-in-law "Lubyni".
Oleh will be memorialized by family, friends, and colleagues as a compassionate, kind-hearted, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who will be dearly missed and forever loved.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 7/30/25, at 11 am, at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Memorial Church, South Bound Brook, NJ., and burial to be subsequently held at St. Andrew Ukrainian Cemetery, South Bound Brook, NJ. A funeral reception will follow.
