Muriel E. “Winnie” Markano, age 102, of Edison, died on Monday, March 13, 2017 at her home.
Born in New Brunswick, she has been a resident of Edison for many years. She was a communicant at St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church in Highland Park. She and her late husband, James Sr. loved traveling the U.S.A.
Muriel had worked as a telephone operator for New Jersey Bell in New Brunswick for over 40 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was also involved with the ARC of Union and Middlesex Counties.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, James J. Markano, Sr. in 2009.
She is survived by her sons, James J. Markano, Jr. of Edison and Edwin E. Markano and adopted son, William Malek, both of Piscataway, a daughter, Murial W. Markano of Clark, one grandchild, three step-grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may visit from from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017 and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, 17 South Adelaide Avenue, Highland Park. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church (Transfiguration of the Lord Parish) in Highland Park. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park Mausoleum, South Brunswick.
