Morris Edward James, affectionately known as Ed, Mo, and Koolwhip, peacefully passed away on September 19th, 2024, at RWJ in Rahway, NJ. Born on April 6th, 1963, in Atlantic City, NJ, Morris was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend to many. He was 61 years old.
Morris was a towering figure at 6'4" with a spirit just as grand. He brought joy and light wherever he went, his contagious smile and laughter leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. Growing up, Morris shared a special bond with his late father Marvin James Sr., whose values and strength he carried with him throughout his life. Together with his late brother Derek James, they navigated the joys and challenges of childhood, forming an unbreakable bond that transcended time.
From an early age, Morris displayed a passion for sports, playing football at Rutgers University, where he not only thrived as an athlete but also as a friend and teammate. His love for the game and dedication to his team reflected his commitment to excellence in all aspects of his life.
His career was marked by dedication and perseverance. Morris worked part-time as a bus driver for Academy Bus Tours, a job that not only provided him with a livelihood but also introduced him to the love of his life, his wife Paula. Their union was one of strength, love, and unwavering support, spanning 25 years and countless memories that they shared together.
Morris's career path took him through various roles, from driving hazmat trucks to eventually being promoted to Hazmat Training Manager before he retired in 2021. His expertise and commitment to safety in the DOT industry were commendable, earning him numerous certificates along the way. His contributions to his community and society at large were significant, leaving a positive impact on those he worked with and the lives he touched.
Beyond his professional life, Morris found solace and joy in his hobbies and interests. An avid bowler with a competitive spirit, he found camaraderie and fun on the lanes, creating lasting friendships along the way. His involvement in the church choir as a bass guitar player and vocalist spoke to his passion for music and his dedication to serving others through his talents.
In his later years, Morris found fulfillment in family life, cherishing every moment spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His son Marvin Jr. and daughter Kheri, along with his grandchildren Tiffani, Thera, Tyler, Amber, Armani, and Ambrose, were the light of his life, and he took immense pride in watching them grow and thrive.
As family and friends gather to remember Morris's life, they will recall a man of strength, kindness, and humor. His legacy of love and laughter will endure, a shining example of the impact one person can have on the world around them. A
service will be held to honor Morris's memory, followed by cremation, in accordance with his wishes. To Paula, his children, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved him, may the memories of Morris bring you comfort in this time of sorrow. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, 17 S. Adelaide Avenue, Highland Park, NJ between the hours of 1 pm and 4 pm. Parking is available in the parking lot immediately behind the funeral home or on S. Adelaide Avenue.
