Modesto Charles Milo, 83, of Metuchen, died Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Modesto was born in Newark and raised in East Orange and Metuchen. He also resided in Chicago, New York City, New Brunswick, North Brunswick, and Basking Ridge.
Modesto was predeceased by his wife, Kay Joan (Kerlin) Milo in 2018, his sister, Marie Sandra Tufaro in 2021, and great-niece, Marisa Rose Tufaro in 2017.
A graduate of Metuchen High School (Class of ’58) and Upsala College with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business and English, Modesto proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
He had an extensive employment career in the textile industry, working as a Midwest sales manager for Burlington Industries from 1977 to 1983 and as a national sales manager for J.P. Stevens/Delta Mills from 1983 to 1991. Modesto later founded Irongate Enterprises, LLC, for which he primarily marketed garments made in the United States. He was still working as recently as the early 2020s, partnering with textile mills in other countries to develop uses from recycled denim materials.
A prolific reader, especially of the New York Times, Modesto was an avid follower of history, world events, and politics. His intellectual curiosity spanned myriad subjects. Modesto was a lifetime New York Yankees fan and passionate follower of all New York professional sports teams.
Modesto was a loving brother to his sister, Marie, and son to his mother, Elan. Modesto is survived by two nephews, many loving cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be private. Modesto drifted peacefully from this world to his rightful place in heaven with the mellifluous sounds of Frank Sinatra, his favorite musical artist, softly playing in the background of his hospital room.
