Mary E. Vanacore, age 96, of Highland Park, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in Italy, she lived in Pennsylvania before moving to Highland Park approximately 75 years ago. Mary was a communicant at St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church in Highland Park. She was a charter member of the Highland Park First Aid Squad Ladies Auxiliary.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Jack in 1986, three sisters; Margaret Gallino, Agnes Nasdeo and Frances Cerminaro and Mary’s companion, Frank Kelsey.
Mary is survived by her loving sons, James “Jack” Vanacore and his wife, Linda of New Jersey and Florida and Richard Vanacore and his wife, Jackie, of Carteret, one sister, Ann Meltzer and two brothers, David and Anthony DeLuca, four grandchildren, Rebecca DeGroat and her husband, Keith, Melissa Decker and her husband, Ed, Michael Vanacore and his wife, Kimberly, and Danielle Vanacore, all of New Jersey, nine great-grandchildren; Jason, Ryan, Allissa, Jamie, Ethan, Bailey, Nicholas, Gabralla, and Kayla, and one great-great grandson, Brian. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m Monday at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, 17 South Adelaide Avenue, Highland Park. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home followed by a 11:00 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church,(Transfiguration of the Lord Parish) in Highland Park. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
