Mary Brush Jones, 88, of Piscataway, N.J. A University of Michigan graduate and an editor at Rutgers Magazine for many years, she is survived by her sons, Michael and Robert and grandson Will.
Mary Brush Jones passed away December 16, after a long, debilitating illness. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan and a Fulbright Scholar in economics. From a small town in the Mohawk Valley, she moved to the Louisville for a job, to Australia to further her education, and to Canada as a young mother, and finally to central New Jersey where she raised her family.
Mary loved writing and worked as a journalist and editor. As a journalist, she interviewed subjects ranging from Eleanor Roosevelt to Stephen Jay Gould, and won several national awards for her work as the managing editor at Rutgers Magazine. She also loved boating, gardening, French Impressionist art and, particularly, the 1000 Islands region of New York State. She was always curious, adventurous, and always eager to share what she had learned. The world is a smaller place without her.
We will have a private memorial for my mother - immediate family and a few of her close friends. Over the summer her ashes will be buried on Wellesley Island, where she spent her summers since she was a child. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Mary B. Jones to:
