Mary Abel, age 98, of Somerset, died Monday, November 25, 2013 at the McCarrick Care Center in Somerset, N.J.
Born in Newark, she lived in Irvington for many years before moving to Iselin and East Hanover before she settled in Somerset.
Mary worked several years as a factory worker at Forstner Chain Corp. in Irvington. In her later years, she worked as a sales clerk at Bamberger’s Store in Menlo Park Mall.
She was pre-deceased by a husband and a son,both known as Jack Betterbid, and several sisters and brothers. She was also part of the large Zappulla family of Irvington, N.J.
Mary is survived by a son, Raymond Betterbid, of Somerset, a sister, Julie Pettinelli of Rome, New York and four grandchildren, Tara Betterbid, Guy Betterbid, Nicole Betterbid and Rachel Betterbid and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 7th at St. Matthias R.C. Church, 168 JFK Blvd. Somerset, N.J. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, Highland Park.
