Mario Indri Obituary

Mario Indri passed away at home August 9. He resided for over fifty years on Grant Avenue in Highland Park with his wife Justine and large family. He was born on January 11, 1930. Mario attended St. Peter's High School. He graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick with an engineering degree in 1950. After graduation, Mario was drafted into the army where he became an officer in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. In 1954 he married Justine Morrissey of Yonkers NY in a Catholic ceremony at St. Patrick's Cathedral, NYC. He subsequently fathered eight children in the space of eleven years beginning in 1959. He joined his brother and father to run a family owned and operated construction company. Mario and Justine were intrepid day trippers, traveling with their large brood to the Bronx Zoo or to visit family in New York City, or for longer jaunts to Montauk where extended family gathered. For many years when the children were young, the family vacationed happily for part of the summer in a tiny house on Cape May Point. Mario would commute 3 plus hours from work to be with the family on weekends. Mario enjoyed golf in the early years and fishing for bluefish off the beach in Montauk. Mario was a gifted amateur photographer whose subjects were his children. A daughter reminisced how Mario would drive the children to school everyday after lining them up to make sure each drank every drop of a “disgusting mixture” of brewer's yeast, Ovaltine, milk, raw eggs, and liquid vitamin E. Frequently, Mario would take the children to an early morning mass at St. Paul's before school. He helped with school work. Mario was an avid newspaper reader and knowledgeable about foreign and domestic news. To the end, Mario was a devoted husband, constantly remarking to all present how beautiful his bride, Justine, remained.

Mario is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Justine Indri, eight children (5 girls and 3 boys) and 14 grandchildren.
