Margaret Hammell

Margaret R. Hammell, age 97, of Highland Park, died Sunday, January 4, 2015 at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Born in the Fords section of Woodbridge Township, she had lived in Highland Park for most of her life. She was a 1936 graduate of Perth Amboy High School and a 1939 graduate of St. Peter’s Nursing School.
Margaret had worked as an operating room nurse at St. Peter’s Hospital in New Brunswick and as a private duty nurse at the Fitkin Memorial Hospital in Neptune.

Margaret was very active at St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church as a long time communicant serving as an adult altar server, a member of the Rosary Society and Church senior citizens group, and served on the stewardship, building, and public worship committees. She was a member of the Serra Club, the Catholic Daughters, AARP, as well as the Highland Park Senior Citizens. She had been a member of the Highland Park Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary as well.

He was pre-deceased by her husband, Arthur Hammell in 1986.

She is survived by her children; Arthur Hammell of Centennial, CO, Thomas Hammell of East Lyme, CT, Kathleen Billmann of Turnersville, N.J. and B.J. Hammell of Milltown, N.J. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m on Tuesday at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, 17 South Adelaide Avenue, Highland Park. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church (Transfiguration of the Lord Parish) in Highland Park. Interment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway.
