Jean Burton, 93, of Piscataway died peacefully on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 with friends by her side.
Jean was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated with a B.A., M.A., and PhD in Psychology from Ohio State University. In 1954, Jean joined the Psychology Clinic staff at Douglass College and in 1955 joined the Douglass College faculty where she had a long academic career until retiring in 1988. She was very instrumental in expanding the teaching and research facilities for child psychology at Douglass Campus and creating the Douglass Day Care Center.
Her love of books led her to help create the Friends of the Piscataway Library and start the still-continuing book sales to raise funds for Piscataway's two libraries. Jean also loved animals and classical music. She was an avid college football fan and a fantasy football participant. She remained a life-long fan of the Ohio State football team.
There was a private funeral. Donations in Jean's honor can be made to the American Indian College Fund (collegefund.org) or Alley Cat Allies (www.alleycat.org).
