James J. Markano, Sr., age 97, of Edison, son of the late James C. and Mary Abate Markano, died at home on Monday evening, December 14, 2009. James had worked 44 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He and his wife loved traveling the USA and he was an avid golfer.
James was a communicant and an active member of the St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church in Highland Park. Mr. Markano was past president of the Holy Name Society, a charter Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus as well as a 4th Degree Honor Guard of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Edison Elks and a Commodore of the New Brunswick Boat Club. James was active with the ARC of Union and Middlesex Counties.
Mr. Markano is survived by his loving wife, Muriel "Winnie" of Edison, sons; James J.of Edison, Edwin Ellison and adopted son, William Mallek of Piscataway, a daughter, Muriel W. of Clark, grand canine Roscoe, one grandchild, three step-grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
