Jack Shapiro, age 92, of Highland Park, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Regency Care Center in Somerset, N.J. He was the son of Rubin and Rose Shapiro, immigrants from Vilna, Lithuania. Rubin operated dental laboratories in the Bronx and New Jersey. Rubin trained and brought Jack and his other son, Leo into the trade and the business. Accurate Dental Laboratories operated in New Brunswick from the early 1940's through the late 1980's. at its peak employing some 20 people. For four decades, Accurate participated in a vocational program where Jack and Leo trained people with disabilities to become skilled dental technicians.
Jack leaves Shirley, his wife of 50 years, sons; Steve and Tom and daughter-in-law, Akemi, stepdaughter Leslie Jenkins, son-in-law, Arthur, grandchildren, Farida Dowler, Gabriel Shapiro, Dara Jenkins, and Jacob Shapiro and great grand-daughter, Maddalena Dowler. He is also survived by a niece Randy and her friend, Joel.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 19th at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, 17 South Adelaide Avenue, Highland Park. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery, South Brunswick, N.J.
