Ivan Samuel Jenkins, age 82, died October 23, 2021 in Somerville, New Jersey.
Ivan was born on April 9th,1939, in St, Mary, Jamaica, to Samuel and Hilda Jenkins. He graduated with a diploma from the Jamaica School of Agriculture, a Teaching Degree from Moneague Teachers College in Jamaica, and received his Masters in AgriBusiness from Tuskegee University in Alabama.
Ivan began his teaching career at Trinity School and Hampstead All Age School where he later became the principal. He was an active member of his community and a loyal member of the Quaker Hill Friends Meeting.
In 1991 Ivan immigrated into the United States and planted roots in Highland Park, NJ. He worked as a Lab Technician at the AgBiotech Center, Cook College, Rutgers University for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the New Brunswick Friends Meeting.
Ivan is remembered as an expert horticulturist, a devoted family man, a teacher and mentor to many students, and a community advocate for those in need. He is survived by his wife, Linette, daughter, Crystal, brother, Charles, niece, Paulette and brothers-in-law, Eric and Hopeton.
Viewing and a small service will be held on Sunday, November 7th from 1 pm to 5 pm at Jaqui Kuhn Funeral home, 17 S. Adelaide Avenue, Highland Park, NJ. The New Brunswick Friends Meeting will begin promptly at 3:30 pm by the Facilitator and last for approximately one hour. Parking is avaible behind the funeral home. Attendents will be assist visitors when the lot is full.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the New Brunswick Friends Meetings. The donations will be forwarded to the schools where Ivan began his career as an instructor in Jamaica.
