Irene Berman Gunsher Cane passed away peacefully early Sunday morning after a long illness. She received degrees from New York University and Brooklyn College and taught kindergarten in Brooklyn, NY. She retired to Lake Worth, Florida then moved to Highland Park to be closer to her family. She was predeceased by her first husband, Daniel Gunsher, in 1967 and her second husband, Philip Cane, in 1997.
She will be sorely missed by her children; Marian and Harold Sackrowitz, Barbara and Mark Cane, Helen and Marc Bornstein, and Aleta and David Cane, grandchildren; Rachel and Daniel Sackrowitz, Laura and Adi Mahalel, Judith and Brian Goodstein, Yvonne and Jacob Cane, Deborah Cane, Rebecca Cane and Daniel Meyer, Lea Bornstein and Jonathan Bornstein, 8 great-grandchildren; her wonderful caregiver, Galena Karibinivitch; and the many students and friends whose lives she touched and who touched hers.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, N.J. Shiva will be observed Monday after 4pm and Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Sackrowitz residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or a charity of your choice.
