Hannah "Hania" (Prydatkevytch) Kuchar

Hannah Prydatkevytch Kuchar, daughter of the distinguished Ukrainian violinist and composer Roman Prydatkevytch (1895–1980) and Lydia (née Klopotovska) Prydatkevytch (1900–1987), was born in New York City in 1930 and passed away in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, on June 6, 2026. Known affectionately as Hania, she devoted her life to serious music, education, and the preservation of Ukrainian culture.

Hannah was the committed and loving wife of Theodore Kuchar (1923–1987). Together they raised two sons, Theodore and Andrew, who, along with their families, continue the cultural and musical traditions she championed.

Her musical career included participation in the Marlboro Music Festival from 1951 to 1953, and a 1970 European tour as pianist partner to her father, with performances in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, London, Stockholm, and Vienna. She played a pivotal role in the musical development of her sons and of many young pianists and musicians, particularly within Cleveland's Ukrainian community, many of whom went on to distinguished careers.

For nearly 25 years, Hannah contributed significantly to the administration of two renowned festivals: the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and the Nevada Chamber Music Festival, where her artistic insight and dedication left a lasting impact.

In 1969, she became a founding director, principal, and faculty member of Ridna Shkola – the School of Ukrainian Studies in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As the first institution of its kind in western Pennsylvania, it fostered Ukrainian language, history, and arts, shaping generations of Ukrainian American children.

Hannah is survived by her sons Theodore and Andrew Kuchar, their wives Oksana and Andrea (respectively), and her beloved grandchildren - Theodore, Adriana, and Alexander - who brought her immense joy and carry forward her legacy of music, culture, and family devotion.

Her life was one of purpose, artistry, and unwavering cultural commitment, and her influence endures in the many lives she touched.

Visitation will be held at the Bruskiewitz Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11th, 2026 from 5:00-6:00 pm, with a Memorial Service and Panakhyda at 5:30 pm. 

Religious services at 1 pm on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Church in South Bound Brook, New Jersey.  Interment to follow immediately after the religious service in the cemetery.
