Biography
Elizabeth "Bette" Sullivan, age 93, of Highland Park, died Monday, November 9, 2009 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Bridgewater, MA, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Kathryn Pickett Merrick and was raised by her beloved step-mother, Helena Merrick. Bette was a graduate of Medford High School Class of 1935. She worked for over twenty years at New York Telephone and New Jersey Bell before her retirement. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Bette was a communicant at St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church in Highland Park where she was active with their Senior Citizens Group. She was also active with the Highland Park and North Brunswick Senior Citizens Groups. Bette was a member of the Tara Irish Club in Milltown which was an extension of her love of her Irish heritage and culture which included Irish dancing and sharing her Irish background with her grandchildren taking trips to Ireland. She enjoyed bike riding with your late husband. Bette had a love of travel which included trips to Europe and Africa in addition to family trips to Cape Cod maintaining connections with her nieces and nephews. Bette and her late husband Dan, volunteered with Elijah's Promise Soup Kitchen and she continued her selfless service to friends in need at Parker at StoneGate.
Bette was pre-deceased by her husband, Daniel J. Sullivan, Jr. in 1990.
She is survived by her children; Maureen Noaman and her husband, Qais, of Highland Park, Daniel Sullivan of Ocean Grove, N.J., Helena Hebbeler and her husband, Cliff of Pipersville, PA and Kathryn Pisciotta and her husband, Al, of Valley Forge, PA, a brother, Henry Merrick and his wife, Kay, of Wheaton, IL and seven grandchildren, Meisan and Amirah Noaman, Daniel and Kevin Hebbeler, and Alexander, Christopher and Matthew Pisciotta. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all of Bette's caregivers and friends at Parker at StoneGate who touched her life so much.
Due to floral restrictions at the Cemetery, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medical Mission Sisters, 8400 Pine Road, Philadelphia, PA 19111.
