Elizabeth O'Neill Obituary

Elizabeth Carol Knollmueller O’Neill was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 30, 1938, and died on August 17, 2024, in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Carol was a very unique and talented woman with many gifts in art and music. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who left significant contributions to her family and community.

After graduating from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree, she married William Lawrence O’Neill in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on August 20, 1960. They remained married for the next 55 years until his death in 2016. Carol moved to New Jersey with Bill after he became a history professor at Rutgers University in 1971 and stayed in the area.

Carol had an extensive art career that spanned the decades as she worked in wood sculpture, then abstract paintings, photography, and collages. She also worked for many years as a Program Coordinator at the National Society to Prevent Blindness–New Jersey and also at the Middlesex County Arts High School & Arts Middle School.

Carol was also a skilled pianist who loved Chopin and later was one of the founders of the Highland Park Community Chorus as well as a member of the Highland Park Artists Collective.

Surviving are her two daughters, Cassandra O’Neill (Danny Martinez) and Catherine O’Neill, and her two grandchildren, Monica and Caleb O’Neill.
