Biography

Cynthia J. Potts, age 47, of Highland Park, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Cindy was a cancer survivor from Acute Myeloid Leukemia and a recipient of a stem cell transplant from her sister, Cheryl, back in 2007.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, she was raised in Vineland, N.J. and was a 1982 graduate of Vineland High School. After graduating from The College of New Jersey in 1986, she moved to Plainsboro for a short time before marrying her husband in 1988 and moving to Chesterfield, N.J. She moved to Highland Park in 1995 when they purchased the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home.

In addition to being the co-owner of the Funeral Home, she was working part-time for 17 years as an accountant for Franklin Corner Dental Associates in Lawrenceville and Millburn Orthodontics in Millburn for the past seven years.

Cindy was very active in Girl Scouts and as a young girl received her Gold award. As the mother of Jessica, she was the leader of a Highland Park girl-scout troop #80980 for 12 years and then went on to be an assistant leader with another troop when her own troop girls aged out of the program.

Her life centered around her children and being involved in their activities. They enjoyed many visits with season passes to Six Flags every year since the kids were very young. She also loved doing puzzles and arts and crafts.

She was the grand-daughter of the late Elwyn and Kathryn Onsted and Clyde Dickerson Sr.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 22 years, Gary S. Potts, a daughter, Jessica, and a son, Jason, both at home, her parents, Ronald and Janet Dickerson of Vineland, N.J. a sister, Cheryl Franks and her husband, Mark, of Egg Harbor Twp., a nephew, Matthew and niece, Renee Franks both of Egg Harbor Twp., N.J., her paternal grandmother, Winonia Dickerson, of Adrian, Michigan, two uncles, Clyde Dickerson, Jr. and his wife, Nancy of Adrian, MI and Alvin Dale Dickerson and his wife, Sandra, of Clayton, MI, an aunt, Beverly Kruger and her husband, Robert of Omaha, Nebraska, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Susan Fegely of Columbus, N.J., a nephew, Richard Fegely of Columbus, N.J. a niece, Lisa Shannon, and her husband, Ed, of Bordentown, and two great-nephews, Brendan and Brian Shannon as well as several cousins and her greyhound friend, Onyx.

Relatives and friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, 17 South Adelaide Avenue, Highland Park. (www.jkfuneralhome.com) A Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Reformed Church of Highland Park, 21 South Second Avenue, Highland Park, N.J. Interment will follow at Bordentown Cemetery in Bordentown, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions be made to the Girl Scouts of America or to the Greyhound Friends of New Jersey. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
