Anthony “Tony” J. Morra passed away peacefully into God’s hands on April 7, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Newark, Tony moved with his family to New Brunswick, N.J. as a child, graduating from New Brunswick High School. Following graduation, Tony served with the United States Navy. Following discharge from the Navy, Tony entered the New Jersey State Police Academy, graduating with the 39th Municipal Class. In 1953, he was appointed to the Highland Park Police Department, achieving the rank of Sergeant in 1974, then promoted to Lieutenant the following year. During a long and distinguished career with the Highland Park Police Department, Tony forged a legacy of compassion, good judgement, humor and competence. He served in numerous capacities in the department including Traffic Service and the Police Auxiliary. He was a lifelong member of the Auxiliary for the Highland Park Fire Department and the First Aid Squad, as well as a delegate to the New Jersey PBA. Tony also designed the memorial monument that currently stands in front of the Fire and Police Building. Tony served on the force for 40 years, retiring in 1993. Tony moved to Boynton Beach, Florida following his retirement, where he enjoyed 16 years of golf, tennis, and playing poker with his many friends.
Tony leaves behind his loving wife of 33 years, Vivian Provenzano Morra, as well as his children, Michele Cass and her husband, Jim, of Escondido, California, his son, Anthony Jr. and his wife, Janet of Melrose, Massachusetts; his step children, Jayne Provenzano Senor and her husband, Sean, of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Rosario, “Roy” Provenzano of Monroe, N.J.; six grandchildren, Lindsay and Kevin Cass, David and Allison Morra, and Brianna and Anthony Senor, his brother, Frank and his wife, Dorothy of North Brunswick, N.J., a sister, Olga Hegedus of Delaware along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Friday, April 11th at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, 17 South Adelaide Avenue, Highland Park. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Franklin Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 1800 Route 27, North Brunswick with the entombment to follow.
