Mary Maggio Obituary


Mary G. Maggio, age 92, of Highland Park, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Born in Spadafora, a Providence of Messina, Sicily in 1926, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1938 and lived in the Bronx and NYC before moving to Highland Park in 1950.

Mary was a dressmaker and designer of wedding dresses in NYC and Highland Park for over 70 years. She enjoyed cooking, singing and gardening.

She was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Highland Park Knights of Columbus and a parishioner at St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church (Transfiguration of the Lord Parish)

Mary was pre-deceased by her parents, Joseph and Antoinette Giacobbe, and a brother, Henry. Mary was the beloved wife of Peter Maggio who died in 2009.

Surviving are her daughters, Victoria Chevalier and Anna Marie Maggio and one grandson, Neal Chevalier. Also surviving are nephews and nieces, Joseph, Anthony, Pat and Doreen Giacobbe of N.J. and Victoria Hodam of California, Frank and Emily Maggio of Florida.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16th at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home, 17 South Adelaide Avenue, Highland Park. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17th at the Jaqui-Kuhn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Brunswick.
